Monday, January 17th – Thursday January 27th
We camped on Plumosa Rd. in the BLM land north of Quartzsite with the Escapees SOLOS group, a chapter of the national Escapees RV club. Camping is “boon docking” which means no power or water supplies, everyone has to be self sufficient. Our Escapees SOLOS rally didn’t officially begin until Wednesday, so I took the opportunity on Tuesday to drive into Q. First I stopped at a tire shop and ordered all new tires for the Rpod and made an appointment for the following week to have them installed. Then I called a mobile RV repair place and talked to them about coming to me to install a new power tongue jack. They had them in stock and we made an appointment for the following Tuesday, but they were busy and didn’t confirm it. The power jack is a critical element to being able to travel easily. On Sunday I found a power Jack here in Quartzsite, bought it, and a friend helped install it. Myrna is a retired truck driver, and she knew how to install and wire it. Thanks, Myrna!! One problem solved…
Starting on Wednesday, the days have been super busy. The club provides coffee and breakfast and there are activities and some seminars every day. The national Escapees organization held a party on Wednesday – “Party on Plumosa” – with live music and a full meal. Thursday we were treated to breakfast and music by the Christian Fellowship Group, a chapter of Escapees. Evening meal was provided by SOLOS and followed by a campfire. It’s a great group of people, many of whom I hadn’t see in 2 to 4 years or more, and lots of new people. The weather is quite chilly at night, in the 40’s, but sunny and 70’s in the daytime. It’s a fun adventure.
Friday evening I had dinner with the Toyota RV group which was the first group I stayed with in Q several times before I sold the Toyota in 2017. The “Big Tent” which is full of RV vendors opens on Saturday. Lot’s of activities planned thru Wednesday. Monday our SOLOS group hosted a dance with live music and had invited many people in the area, singles and couples all welcome. It was a big hit! Tuesday we had our annual business meeting followed by an auction of items folks donated from their RVs, proceeds go to CARE, an assisted living place Escapees provides in Livingston TX. We had a campfire every evening and our last breakfast was on Wednesday. After that some folks started leaving. I stayed because I had my appointment for new tires on Thursday, on my way out of Quartzsite, so I could hook the trailer up only when I needed it to go. It was a busy and fun time.
