2024 – Around the Country – January to April

#1 Lopez to Quartzsite, AZ

I left Lopez Island on January 5th, and traveled south thru rain and snow, pass closures, etc. to get to Quartzsite AZ on January 16th. The Escapees SOLOS rally started on the 17th.

#2 Quartzsite – Yuma – Casa Grande

This includes the Escapees Solos rally, side trip to Yuma to get some RV repairs, and on to SKP park in Casa Grande.

#3 Sunna

I said goodbye to Sunna on February 1st. Rest in Peace.

#4 Mountains in AZ- NM

This took place before we said goodbye to Sunna, January 29-31. I wanted you all to have that news as soon as possible. Now, we’re back on our normal travel schedule.

#5 Albuquerque NM to Texas

First travels without Sunna. I’m missing her. Stopped at Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife refuge for some quiet time, then headed on to Texas.

#6 Memphis TN

Spent one full day in Memphis, fascinating!

#7 Paducah KY to Nashville TN

I visited Michael and Victoria Terra in Paducah and then explored a bit of Nashville.

#8 North Carolina – First part of visit

Connected with Kelley and Casey, family and friends

#9 North Carolina – Grandfather Mountain

I explored this steep mountain drive, 360-degree views, swinging bridge and more.

#10 North Carolina – Biltmore Estate

I explored the whole property one day, then Kelley and Vicki and I took the home tour the next day, and several days later we went there with Casey to see the sunset.

#11 North Carolina – Downtown Asheville

I explored downtown Asheville on several different days: Art Museum, Black Mountain College Museum, Moogseum, other galleries, and the Grove Arcade.

#12 North Carolina – Family

Celebrating Vicki’s birthday, hiking up to waterfalls with Kelley and Casey, Chris and Megan with Granger and Gwendolyn.

#13 North Carolina – Oops and Change of Plans

You know what they say about best laid plans… Well, I had a flat tire on the trailer — and a bent axle, so my plans to keep on traveling were put on hold. But not for long…

#14 Baltimore MD – Virginia’s Ashes

I resumed my travels, without my trailer, and headed north toward Baltimore. My destination: Greenmount Cemetery, where many generations of our family, on my mom’s side, are buried.
