March 1st and 3rd

I’ve combined several North Carolina family outings on this page. Casey grew up in the Asheville NC area, so these are some of his extended family. There were other gatherings, but I often forget to take pictures when I’m busy hanging out with people!

Vicki’s birthday was March 1st and there was a fun birthday dinner at a local Japanese restaurant. We sat around a grill and watched an entertaining chef fix our meals. Vicki’s brother Andy was there, also brother Tony and his wife Lori. Casey’s brother Chris and his son Granger were there. Chris’s wife Megan and new daughter Gwendolyn weren’t there. Kelley had to work until 7:30, so she missed the dinner too. After dinner we went to a local pub and hung out some more.

Our next family outing was to visit several waterfalls. The first one we stopped at was Looking Glass Falls. It was easy to access and Chris and Granger, Kelley and Casey and dogs walked out onto the rocks and waded in the water. This was the first chance we had to see Megan and meet Gwendolyn who was born on January 24th – she was just 5 1/2 weeks old! We walked by the river on our way to our second waterfall. Chris caught one fish (and released it) and Granger, now 3 years old, got to wade in the water. They have been taking Granger fishing since he was a toddler, so he’ll probably be a life-long fisherman! The second waterfall was Daniel Ridge Falls. We stopped at a local brewery for a late lunch, then headed home. A lovely sunset wrapped up our day.
