2024 #3 – Sunna

I said goodbye to Sunna on February 1, 2024. I had adopted her as a puppy on January 28, 2010 – Kelley’s 21st birthday.

The day before she was ok, and that evening she had some kind of neuropathic episode and couldn’t walk, carried her head at a weird angle, drooled a lot, etc. She was in worse shape than I had ever seen. It didn’t seem likely that she would get better.

I was lucky to be with friends south of Albuquerque. Not only with friends but my friend has horses, dogs, cats and used to work at a vet hospital. Her grandson’s wife is a vet tech and she got us in right away. So we were going to see trusted vets. Makes a big difference. And I didn’t have to go thru this alone. It was not as hard as I thought it would be, because her time had come.

She was 14yo and 4mo. I’m ok with my decision so she wouldn’t suffer. She and I had so many adventures together, she was an incredible dog. Full of energy and always seemed to be smiling. The last few years were a bit rough but I knew she wanted to keep on going. Until now. I can see her running and playing in doggie heaven.

I posted this news on Facebook on February 2, but many friends do not look at Facebook, so I’m including it here. It’s part of traveling and life…
