February 9th – 12th
After visiting friends in the Dallas area, I stayed at Cooper Lake State Park still in TX. My next stop, after a long day of driving, was Little Rock Arkansas. I had gotten to the campground late and there weren’t many campers, so the hosts let me stay for free! Once I got parked and was inside, lightening, thunder and heavy rain started and continued all night.
The next day I drove all day and got to Memphis TN where I stayed for two nights. The full day I was there was Sunday Feb 11th, Super Bowl! I was able do a lot of exploring: Rock and Soul Museum, walked around downtown, saw crowds headed to a local stadium for a college game, went to the Peabody Hotel – an old and elaborate building with famous ducks in the lobby fountain (their arrival in the morning and departure at night is a big event!) Next I walked over to famous Beale Street, lots of pubs and places that cater to country music. One last stop was Graceland but by then it was late in the day and it would have cost almost $100 and only an hour left to tour it, so I had to pass. I found a good restaurant and got some takeout then headed back to my trailer to watch the Super Bowl. It was an intense game which ended in a tie and went into overtime. I was rooting for the 49ers, but the Kansas City Chiefs won. Still a very entertaining game.
