After the Bluegrass Festival in Lake Havasu SP, many folks were heading south to Yuma. But when I checked the weather, it was going to be in the 90’s! Too hot for me! So I headed north to higher elevations. I stayed in Congress AZ for 3 nights at a SKP RV park, called North Ranch. On the first full day, I got caught up with laundry and checking emails, etc. On the second day, I drove into Wickenburg, a fascinating little town. The Visitor’s Center and Chamber of Commerce is in a refurbished train station, and there was a fascinating cowboy museum, Desert Caballeros Western Museum, full of art work and the town’s history. In downtown, the street lights wore cowboy hats! And there was a historical “Jail Tree” where they chained up outlaws – they were too busy to build a real jail!
Next I drove on to Camp Verde, a short drive away, to another RV park called Krazy K. It was close to Sedona from there, so I stayed there for almost a week. I was still recovering from my nerve injury and a lack of energy, so I was careful to take each day slowly. It’s very near the Montezuma Castle – full of Pueblo Ruins and more history. I had been there in 2016, with Sunna. The first full day I was there I drove into Sedona, where I wandered around, had lunch, and explored the town. Then I drove a lot of various side roads to get a sense of the area. The red rocks are amazing – photos don’t really do them justice! I’ll try to identify the main formations. It’s a unique and amazing place!
More Sedona photos to come in the next Travelogue #5B, Exploring Sedona Part 2.
