This was the first Jazz Festival I’ve gone to without Virginia, my sister, who passed away in June 2019. We went to the MJF for 45 years! What started out as a novel idea, turned into a tradition which spanned many different phases of our lives. Karleen Patrick a dear friend from Lopez Island, who had gone to the MJF with us once before, accompanied me. I drove to California in my trailer and she flew into San Jose where I picked her up. We parked the trailer and stayed in the Olympic Lodge motel in Pacific Grove, our long-time tradition. I was glad to be there, and share it with Karleen, but it was melancholy on many levels for me.
